Changed brands so now a large Hungry Horse in an old hotel building on a bypassed bit of the old Great North Road, but still handy for the A1. It has a typical brightly coloured interior, well broken up into smaller areas so it is not too difficult to find a corner away from the families. I have been to worse. IPA, Abbot and Old Speckled Hen on pump in tolerable condition. Perhaps a useful refreshment stop but not much else.

Fayre and Square branded pub with a Premier Inn located immediately behind. Very much a family chain pub-restaurant with open plan layout inside. The service was friendly and helpful, the clientele included a lot of families.
Cask ales for the real ale drinker were Bombardier and Black Sheep bitter.

A 2for1 establishment with ample car parking.
No Real Ales but a selection of usual keg offerings.
Good value food with a number of tables outside.
