Old-school roadside pub which seems to have retained a local following, or in other words the bunch of regulars hogging the bar. It has a mix of Brewers' Tudor and seventies stonework, although it's nice to see wood that is polished rather than distressed. It's long and low, with a pool table at one end and a terrace at the front. A nice clutch of ales though, with two Ossett, two Wensleydale and Abbeydale Moonshine on hand pump. Limited hot food (mainly pie and mash) is now available at times.

Pretty much unchanged over the years, the counter and everything else is still where it was and the pulls are in three groups of three along the front counter face, there’s still nine of them with eight in use. The beers were mostly from Yorkshire with Ossett, Black Sheep and Goose Eye among them, good quality on the two I had. There’s no food now only crisps and such like and a pool table is located outside the gents. The minimum spend on cards is £5.

We recently made a long overdue visit to the Hunter`s pub near Pool on a Monday evening having visited this pub over many years. We were a little concerned on arrival to find the carpark almost empty- a rarity fot this lovely venue but proceeded to enter the bar. On entering we found the place was virtually empty. The musice was unusually very and uncomfortably loud and there was a small group dancing and being very roudy. I tried a pint of Daleside Blonde which was not on good form. My partner tried half a warsteiner which she found warm and tasteless and unable to finish! The landlord and one other person were behind the bar and seemed totally unconcerned by it all.We both feel this sadly is a lovely place being ruined and it will be sometime before we visit again

A white washed roughcast covered bungalow style building beside the main Harrogate to Bradford A658 road, set on a slight rise overlooking lower Wharfedale with views of the Chevin and the heights forming the south side of the dale. The interior is a single long room, stone paved as you enter from the front, bare boards elsewhere, and immediately in front of the door is the stone built bar counter. This carries three banks of three handpumps, each bank with one fairly mainstream beer, Tetleys, Theakston and Deuchars with beers from smaller breweries on the others, all I tried were in excellent condition. A comprehensive keg range of Coors, John Smiths Smooth, Guinness, Strongbow, Carlsberg, plus Warsteiner, Grolsch Weise and Addlestones cider. At one end is a raised area with tables and chairs and at the other is a pool table and an alcove decorated with pages from the Beano which houses games machines and a pinball table. A few couples were eating and drinking when I visited and the bar had a small group of cheerful men drinking beside it. As the front wall is almost completely window there is little decoration but the back wall has an assortment of drink related adverts, mirrors etc. Traditional bench seating is built in under the windows and there is a mix of tables and stools. Simple food, mainly pies and pasties are available and the pub is a Good Beer Guide stalwart. Buses from Otley, Leeds-Bradford Airport and Harrogate stop directly outside.

Good CAMRA pub with a country inn atmosphere. 9 different real ales welcome you with taster shots by each pump. Food could be better.
