A multi-roomed Ossett pub on the main Halifax Road, I counted five rooms, two rear and two front with one at the extreme left end and theree’s a covered rear area. Camra has it as the only GBG listed pub in Liversedge and a long time entry with various Pub of the Year awards too. The two right hand rooms share a servery with an arch in the wall dividing the two bars, this gives a fine view of the autovacs which will no doubt disgust some. There are five pulls in the front bar, four in the rear, all Ossett beers bar Abbeydale Moonshine and Goose Eye Bitter. Kegs are the reverse with the single T-bar in each bar serving nationals, bar a Salt Jute and the oddball Alpcalypse plus a Hell Rat solo. Traditional decor and furnishings, including Ossett’s trade mark barrel, a nice comfy pub, there are the odd bull related pictures, a rude clock, (that’s not its tail missus) and a selection of horse brasses fixed to the ceiling beams among other horsey bits.

This is a back street pub owned by Ossett Brewery which has been in the Good Beer Guide for many years. The building is a tall one, the entrance slightly below street level, with a low wall and a step down. The room on the right has a bar counter with five hand pumps, while the other bar counter in the back room has four more. All nine beers were listed on a blackboard, with just Abbeydale Moonshine and Rat In Black Porter the only non-Ossett beers, though Rat Brewery is owned by Ossett of course. I went for Silver King which was very good (NBSS 3.5), so good that I also tried their collaboration with Goose Eye: Pretty Fly, a 3.8% pale, which was just as good. I drew the line at two, as there were other pubs to visit, but made a mental note to come back here some time, because a line up like this deserves further study.
