Will Larter left this review about Old White Lion Hotel
My half of Roosters YPA was paused in mid-pour with not much more than a grunt by way of explanation as the barman disappeared to the cellar. It turned out to be one of those gas problems that affect some cask beer pubs, but when my now habitual photo of my beer failed to focus I realised that the beer was not as clear as it might have been (NBSS 2.5, £4.80/pint). Just as in the previous pub I felt well-disposed towards the furnishings and decor when the beer was great, so in this one I started metaphorically picking holes in the rough stone walls and deliberately rough plaster, not to mention doing a force vector diagram of all those beams and pillars. Yeah, it's all tourist trap fakery. I'll feel differently if I come back another time and find the beer top notch.

Another impressive stone building on the hilltop by the site where every tourist takes the photo looking down the Main Street. As described turn right and there are two bars on different levels, the main serving one appears to be the higher one. It is a step back to the mid 20th century or possibly the 1930’s in decor terms and none the worse for it. Fake half timber and a lot of brass, mostly horse brasses and chargers, plus some framed documents and so on as decor. The music was also very 20th century. Three cask beers, Tetleys bitter, Roosters YPA and Goose Eye bitter, nowt to complain about in condition etc. Solo kegs provide Carling, Strongbow, Guinness, Estrella, Carlsberg and John Smith’s Smooth. The pull in the lower bar is for descriptive purposes only. Two of the beers are the same as JAQPTIO’s visit ten years ago, which sums things up I guess.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Old White Lion Hotel
Very traditional hotel with a restaurant to the left-hand side of the entrance and two bars on slightly different levels to the right. Olde worlde decoration that is - for once - really in keeping. Three real ales on handpump: Tetley's Cask, Robinson's Dizzy Blonde and Goose Eye Bitter (£3.40).
