This Thwaites pub stands on Woodhead Road, a reminder of how close to the Pennines the Holmfirth area actually is. At the time of my visit I had one eye on my watch as my train back to Sheffield was not far off, and the Jacobs Well is a good 10 minute walk from the station. It's a food led pub, with a bit of a fried fish smell noticeable on entering. There were five hand pumps on the bar, with four beers on at the time of my visit: Thwaites Original and Amber, plus a coronation special and Wainwright. Perhaps four beers is too many, especially in midweek. My half of Crowning Glory seemed pretty good at first, but soon palled; maybe that's just payback for a non-royalist drinking a beer with a name like that.
