Real Ale Ray left this review about The Old Post Office
A very smart looking pub on approach, with a newly painted exterior and bench seating out front. The interior was ok, which consisted of beige painted walls and patterned wallpaper to match and striped chocolate coloured upholstered banquette seating along the front. The bar counter was cheaply finished and looked as though it had a coat of stained varnish slapped onto it.
There was a choice of six ales and two ciders on our Saturday afternoon visit, so we went for the Bosun's Under Full Sail and Moorhouses Spring Watch. The barmaid was pleasant and friendly enough, but didn't engage with the customers as she was busy ironing in the back room, most probably for the hotel rooms above.

Two roomed pub with the lounge at the front and a tap room with a pool table to the rear. The tap room also doubles as a function room. Nicely decorated throughout and 5 real ales on the bar. Sadly the first pint I ordered was so off I could hardly bear to smell it. The barmaid was clueless and changed the beer for me, but didn't turn the pump clip round. To be fair the landlord came in about 15 minutes later and got everything sorted out. This is a small hotel and to be honest it felt like a hotel bar. It's quite a pleasant place, but not one of Halifax's top pubs.

Old Boots left this review about The Bowling Green
formerly the Bowling Green, as the name suggests it is across the road from the main Post Office and may well be popular with postmen. A two room layout, there is a long thin room across the front of the building incorporating the bar counter. Behind is a squarish room with a small counter , this is also used as a function room; there is occasional live music and Djs every week plus Friday Karaoke. Five handpumps on the main counter with a good selection of small brewery beers, Little Valley Wheat beer, Pheonix Arizona, Thwaites Wainwright and Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, in ok condition and priced averagely for the area, A couple of T Bars provide the usual range of keg stuff with Warsteiner making an appearance from its big ceramic fount. Décor is standard traditional pub with a lounge bar feel, there are bookcases with books and trophies plus the usual screens and old photos.
