Old Blue left this review about The Wheatsheaf
Slightly odd one, this. A Hall & Woodhouse establishment with two ale pumps serving Badger and Tanglefoot, in which I had a decent pint of the latter whilst my chauffeur for the day had a diet coke, which surprisingly arrived in a small quantity in a red wine glass. The bar is in the middle, with areas to both sides which had tables laid for dining (a glance at the menu revealed main courses starting at about £12). There is a nice garden to the rear abutting a stream.
There were a few people drinking at the bar and one couple dining during our visit. The barmaid was courteous but there was a strangely muted feel to the place, with conversations almost whispered. The unsigned toilets are hidden behind a curtain to the left, presumably to hide them from diners, and thus giving regular customers something to say when they see strangers wandering around looking lost.
The clock just wasn’t ticking loudly enough.
