Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Bax Castle

Modernised country pub close to the Downs Link walking and cycling route along the old railway line through Southwater. Quite a compact bar seating area, but there's a rear room, a semi-separate restaurant in a converted barn on the right-hand side and a beer garden at the front. Three handpumps on the counter, featuring a pair of local Firebird ales - Two Horses (£5.10) and Parody - with a reversed clip from a different brewery on the other.

This country pub is newly reopened after a refurbishment and is now considerably less Marstons and somewhat more local, with Harvey's Sussex and Crafty The Donk (another best bitter) on the handpumps . A 3rd pump suggests possible further options.

Only open a few days but already drawing the crowds, curious to see what's changed (not much) with many here for the food.

The Bax Castle is adjacent to the Downs Link track, so a receives fair few cyclists and muddy-booted walkers. It's not a bad option, easily reached from Horsham or Southwater but if you're intent on dining, a reservation (or an enquiry at least) is probably sensible until the novelty wears off.

A very good pub with three ales and a very reasonably priced menu. And ice creams with flakes and sprinkles as well
