An attractive old pub between the town centre and the railway station which has received a typical Greene King makeover. The single L-shaped room features the bar front, ceiling and other woodwork painted in light grey, with some checkerboard tiling on the floor and various industrial-type lighting. The left side is more of a drinking area, with the carpetted right end more aimed at diners. The dartboard mentioned previously has now gone altogether and there are several sport TVs, thankfully not in use. There is also a fair amount of seating outside, including some under cover. Ale-wise there was just IPA on this visit, with one of the Hens clip-reversed, but condition was good. Basically a plain vanilla pub, not really calling out for a visit but adequate if you have to.

Strongers . left this review about The Star
The Star is an L-shaped pub with a bar that faces the entrance. To the right of the entrance is some seating and a dartboard that had some tables on the oche during my Monday evening visit. To the left is more seating and I spotted a plasma screen that was showing a reality police program on Channel 5. There was also some background music playing and I noted that food is available all day.
Alongside the standard draught selection at the bar were four hand pumps that were drawing Greene king IPA, Abbot, Dark Star’s Hophead and St Austell’s Proper Job.
I found the locals to be harmless enough, but if I wanted to watch police, camera, action or some other indistinguishable specimen of utter drivel I would have gone for a cup of tea around my Nan’s house.
I would return if passing, if only to see what the atmosphere is like at a busier time.
