Pleasant country pub with plenary of outside seating area that was v popular this lunchtime with drinkers and diners. Inside has the v small bar immediately on the wall along the left as you walk in. The interior is divided into four areas, with the two at the front of the pub just partially divided by a small glass screen coming off the back wall. The rear area was the darkest part of the pub today and the final what felt like a slightly more formal eating area was behind the wall behind the bar and just of the dark rear part of the pub. It benefited from sunshine streaming through the windows today. Stone floor and v low ceiling beams the Mon-unexpected order of the day here and you have to constantly remember those low beams as you move about inside the pub.
Drinks wise there were two hand pumps offering 6X and Old Speckled Hen (so not a very exciting range) and six keg taps offering three lagers (Moretti, Amstel and Brixton Coldharbour), Guinness (not too popular today), Neck Oil and Inch’s cider. Altogether a decidedly average set of beers.
In spite of being in this area a lot at weekends I had never tried this one out previously. It was undoubtedly popular today with the sunshine and some locals who have this one as the only pub within walking distance (if you are a local to the pub). Not a bad local but I think there are any number of other better pubs in the Haywards Heath district depending on whether you are out for more of a dining or drinking session (or indeed a few that are good for both).
