Four hand pumps dispensing Harvey’s Forward’s Choice and Sussex Best, plus L Pride and Hophead. Keg offering of Meantime Anytime IPA, Asahi, Peroni, Cornish Orchards cider, Guinness and Grolsch.
Newly re-opened roadside pub in the village of Staplefield. There is some seating at the side of the pub and maybe the back but too dark to see much outside! The long wooden bar counter immediately greets you as you enter the venue. To the right of the entrance and the right-hand side of the venue is a formal dining area with tables all laid for diners. To the left of the bar are a handful of regular tables with seating including regular chairs and a couple of leather sofas. A couple of steps up takes you to a larger seating area in the back half of the venue with regular tables and chairs and a nice fire roaring away in a grate on the back wall. Walls are part boarded, and part plastered all painted the same marine blue colour. Some steps down at the far side of this area takes you to the back of the dining area. There is a small, secluded table at the back of the pub with the fully boarded walls painted a crimson shade and providing presumably the private dining option here. The walls here have several framed photos of the pub over the years. The venue is bare boarded on the back part and stone tiled in the front part. The venue was shut for a couple of years at least and clearly a good few quid spent on doing it up to create a pleasant country pub with a modern feel. Two decent pubs in this small village.

Welcoming village pub opposite the green. Two bar interior, with the rear one down a step. The quaint rear room looks like a 1930’s timewarp. Eight ales available, seven from micros plus London Pride, alongside six ciders and one perry. All are listed on a blackboard. Sadly I found the quality to be rather hit-and-miss. Good friendly landlord and affable staff. The rear beer garden is a notch above the average and was a very pleasant place to sink a couple. Log fires in both bars for the winter months.
