Graham Coombs left this review about The Parsons Pig

A big eatery fronting a Premier Inn, in a much-extended old building. There are a couple of big restaurant areas and a function room which are fairly tedious, while the bar is to one side in a gloomy low-ceilinged area with an awkward corner counter made worse by bar blockers. Just Doom Bar on handpump, admittedly in tolerable condition but hardly an attraction. Prominent signs everywhere warning of dire consequences should you outstay the 3 hour parking limit are hardly welcoming - I wonder if this has something to do with hotel guests? Some of the food and many of the staff seemed to be of South Asian origin, which is a little unusual for the area. I might use it if I found myself put in the Premier Inn, but doubt I would stop again otherwise.

The Parson’s Pig sits adjacent to a large car park that is used by visitors to the pub and the Premier Inn that sits behind. Having argued with a would-be thief of a minicab driver who tried to charge me £8 from the Shipley Bridge around the corner I wasn’t in the best of moods. He actually tried to charge me for his journey from his rank to my location – Hang your head in shame Alpha Cars! I only impart this knowledge to inform of my frame of mind during this pub visit… and to get in a little dig at Alpha Cars.

As I stepped out of the minicab £3.50 lighter (in your face Alpha Cars) my heart sunk as I spotted the Premier Inn. In my experience pubs in such locations are not the best and unfortunately the Parson’s Pig is no exception. The rear of the pub houses a large dining area that I glimpsed at briefly as I walked through the side entrance to the front L shaped bar. On the wall was a flat screen TV showing a Formula One news show that was being watched by a couple of blokes at the bar. Sky Sports was advertised. There was also an ATM machine that seems to be popular with the pubs of Crawley. Do these pubs not offer cashback for free rather than having to pay almost £2 for a withdrawal? I may be wrong but the inclusion of these ATM machines seems like a questionable money making exercise designed to fleece customers who are already paying through the nose for the beer.

San Miguel and standard draught products were available from the bar that also supported three hand pumps. One of these was unused and the Greene king Abbot Ale was off leaving Fullers London Pride as the lone cask option. I managed to have a quick gander at the menu to discover that the pub grub mains are mostly priced under £10.

I found it difficult to get comfortable in here and will drive past next time.
