Came to this Hall & Woodhouse pub for dinner last night and was impressed.
Front entrance takes you to the middle of the bar, the bar and to the right are drinking areas, and to the left you see five separate blackboards providing an extensive albeit not inexpensive menu. Four handpumps to choose from Badger, Tanglefoot, a H&W seasonal (Hopped Hare at the time) which were all on good form, and K&B Sussex on the fourth which we didn't try. Cider is Stowford Press.
Restaurant area is a low beamed (you really do need to mind your head with this one) room behind on the left, evidently the oldest part of the pub. Our steak & stilton pie, ribs and gammon steak were all delicious and generously portioned, and there are plenty of more adventurous dishes on the menu, including several interesting looking vegetarian options.
Staff were pleasant and efficient, with bar service prompt and attentive. I thought the restaurant service was very good if a little slow: but this is a pub you'd go to for a leisurely meal not a quick bite, and it deliberately presents itself this way.
This is primarily a foodie pub, but a good one, and still one I'd feel very comfortable going in just for an ale or two. Though it's in the middle of nowhere and I can't imagine I'd have a reason to go there other than for dinner.
