The Downsman was very busy when I visited on a Friday evening last year, it seems to be the place to be in the area. The U-shaped bar supports a standard keg range alongside Birra Moretti and San Miguel. Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen were the only cask ale options as the third handpump was off and the fourth was unused. Food is available all day, there were good looking and smelling plates of curry leaving the bar one after the other. I didn’t see a menu to read what else was available.
Through the bar I spied two pool tables and a dartboard at the rear. Televisions are in situ for showing Sky Sports and there was some background music playing. Out the front are some picnic tables and to the left is a decked area with covered seating. I liked it in here, one of the best pubs of the day.
