The Woolpack in Fishbourne was our final pub of the day in West Sussex and was another pub for which I had low expectations. I tend to follow the Good Beer Guide to create my pub crawls. The Woolpack hasn't appeared in the Guide since a tiny 16-word entry in 2003.
It's a large spacious pub with some impressive bow windows from its original 1930's construction. With a friendly landlord offering a couple of real ales from Bedlam to its friendly customers and relaxed surroundings, I quite enjoyed my visit here. Of the two Bedlam beers on offer, I had tried the Smash in the Swan Inn at Falmer on Friday. So, I chose the Phoenix, which was the better of the two.
Women's golf was showing on multiple TVs. Nobody appeared to be watching it. A pool table in one corner was covered up, whilst there was also a bar billiards table available to use in the front left window. A garden at the rear looked as if it would be quite inviting during a summer's daytime. But there was a little chill in the air during our evening visit.
No sign of the sausages mentioned in the last review from 11 years ago and thankfully the Young's beers have vanished. Certainly not a pub to be overlooked.
