Strongers . left this review about Trents

The Facebook page of Trents states that it opens at 07:30, I assume for breakfast, and WhatPub states it opens at 11:00, neither of which were correct on a recent Saturday when the doors were firmly shut, and the lights were out not long before midday. Thankfully I was in town for a while, so I revisited later in the day when the doors were open, and a small crowd were in watching rugby on a television mounted on an exposed fireplace on the right-hand wall opposite the serving counter that runs up the left. There’s open plan seating across the front of the pub and up the centre to a strip of seating across the rear where a turquoise banquette runs across the back wall. Premium and mainstream craft keg products were available alongside a couple of Greene King ales, this being one of their pubs. The service was polite, but there are better pubs in the area, so I doubt I’ll ever revisit.

More of a restaurant bar than pub, It's a Greene King place with a couple of handpumps, IPA and Hardy & Hansons festive offering Rock On, unable to face either I settled for a BrewDog Punk IPA at £3.20 the half. Not likely to return.

The Trent is branded as a bar & restaurant and from what I could see functions more as a restaurant during the day and then has a bar vibe after 10.00PM when the food service stops. It certainly is now a million miles from a traditional pub.
Very modern décor with a Gastro pub / restaurant feel but we didn’t eat here, just popped in one evening for a drink, but didn’t stay long as it’s all fizz taps on the bar and one of those ghastly GK IPA chrome pumps.
Was quite lively with a mainly youngish crowd and seemed to be a chosen destination for those young Chi locals who have outgrown the towns Wetherspoons as the source of evening entertainment.

Blackthorn _ left this review about Trents

Good sized pub right on the main High Street. It's a bit geared towards food with the majority of the tables being laid up for food even on a Sunday evening. Having said that, the food is very good and highly recommended, albeit a bit pricier that your usual “pub grub”. In fact it's got that whole gastropub look to the place.

Staff are on the whole were very friendly and switched on, and there's a large, and popular, covered and heated patio at the rear. The accommodation is good too.

Unfortunately there's only one real ale on offer (Greene King IPA) and even that was off on a recent visit. Also just one cider, Scrumpy Jack.

This is another one that's tricky to mark. What it does, it does quite well and it's a pleasant place, but this is BEER in the evening, and on that basis it's difficult to award a good score for a place that only does one beer, even when it's not off.
