Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Anchor

Canal-side Vintage Inn with the usual anonymous semi-modern furniture and decor throughout the various seating / dining areas inside but the terrace overlooking the water is a fine spot on a sunny evening. Four of five handpumps in use when I stopped by for a meal, with Pedigree, Robinson's Trooper, Salopian Oracle and Hobson's Town Crier (pricey at £4.45) on offer, and a reversed Doom Bar clip also noted.

Recently reopened as The Anchor after a major refurbishment, now run by Vintage Inns. The pub sits next to the canal so is popular with boaters. There is a large car park, and there is a paved canal-side garden which even on its opening night has begun to look and smell like an ash tray. Inside, there are a maze of rooms and passages where tables have been crammed in for diners, although the bar area is reasonably spacious for drinkers. The food is the standard Vintage menu, but compared to many chains it's reasonable value for money and fairly good quality. Ales on draft were Ubu Purity and Jennings's Cumberland, both of which were in excellent condition, plus Pedigree, Robinson's Dizzy Blonde and Doombar, which we didn't sample. Being new, the staff were a bit unsure of themselves and there were mistakes, but I'm sure this will sort itself out in time, and I'd be happy to weigh in next time I'm cruising past.

Still as described below. Despite heavy bias towards food, some nice beers and generally a good feel to it. Very handy for canal, with good moorings close at hand (although it is the Staffs & Worcs, not the Shropshire Union!!).

An excellent review by the Monster below - A detached Swiss cottage looking Vintage Inn pub/eatery, in cream painted brick, with some green, steep pitched roof, dormer windows and beer garden, adjacent to the canal.

The interior is open plan and divided into the usual Vintage Inn nooks and crannies (better described below). I completely agree with AM, in that they try to give some historic feel, with the use of old photographs and prints on the walls. The decor is in green, red, whites and undressed brick, with wood support and ceiling beams. I didnt eat here - mainly as it is so packed when i visit, i don't want to stay - but Vintage usually supply a decent meal as far as i am concerned. The service was functional, but to be fair, the place was rammed with a good mixed clientele and he was under pressure . There was no background music or TVs.

Beer; tap stuff with Peroni, as well as Everards Tiger, Brains SA and an excellent Timothy Taylor Landlord on handpull.

A really nice place, but being miserable i can't put up with the fact that it is too crowded whenever i visit - so often end up with a pint in the beer garden. For those hardier than myself, i am sure you will love it - so take the Monster's word for it, not mine!

Ale Monster left this review about Fox & Anchor

This pub is owned by Vintage Inns and looks like a small converted cottage which was built in the 60’s to replace the original late 16th century pub that was destroyed by fire, the interior is larger than you would expect as a single storey extension has been added to the back of the building. As with most of their pubs, Vintage Inns have made a good job of the interior giving it a nice olde worlde feel and a bit of traditional character. You enter the main room which is a long L shape with the longest part going straight to the back of the building and the short part of the L is off to the right. Along the right hand side of the main room is the long bar counter with a stone fire place at the end of the room which was filled with logs. The area to the right of the entrance also has a large stone fire place which I believe is actually used when required and there are big comfy seats. Behind this fire place is a very small snug with only a couple of tables and chairs, while behind the bar (immediately right as you enter the pub) there is a second larger snug if you prefer things a bit quieter. The place is tastefully decorated with old paintings of various subjects and old Victorian Punch illustrations around the bar counter.

Regular ale is Timothy Taylor Landlord with two changing guests from Vintage Inns current portfolio of national beers, on my last visit these were Everards Tiger Best Bitter and Green King Fireside. Around six months ago this pub had Worthington’s White Shield on hand pull (normally only found in bottle conditioned form) as a Vintage Inns Exclusive guest!

This is a great pub which I try to visit every couple of months as its not local to us. Its traditional but not dark or dingy and the food is good so the wife likes it too which is a bonus. The pub also has a nice patio at the back where you can sit with a beer on a sunny day and watch the boats go by on the Shropshire Union Canal.

This is a Vintage Inn foodie pub with a standard menu. However they do have some real ale and I sampled the UBU from Purity which was pleasant. Most punters in here will be eating but you can drink in a lounge area to the right of the entrance as you walk in.Tidy interior and good terrace outside looking out over the canal.
