The Comfortable Gill has had a refurb in the last 12 months or so. I never got to experience it before this, but it certainly looks more welcoming and attractive from the outside now.

At the bar are four hand pulls for cask, the two facing the main entrance were blank yesterday and the two on the opposite side offered Old Speckled Hen and Doom Bar. WhatPub suggests the other two are in use for guests, so perhaps I was unlucky with the timing of my visit.

Went for a meal with a friend and the menu offers a lot of the typical pub classics as well as steaks, grills, baguettes, etc. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes were decent. Despite not having my first or second meal choices available, the rump steak I ended up with was very nice and a rather generous portion with chips, tomato, mushrooms, onion rings, seasonal veg and salad all included.

The young chap behind the bar was very attentive in checking our meals were OK and bringing over cutlery and clearing up quickly between courses.

It's a shame there wasn't more choice on the real ale front but I went for a Maltsmiths IPA on keg which was better than expected.

I'd be very happy to return for a meal.

Lovely old fashioned country pub opposite Bent's Garden Centre with British style pub food, bar snacks and basket meals in the garden, well worth a visit!
