ORIGINAL REVIEW August 2020

Worth updating since the last review was in 2009.I agree that in the past this felt like a restaurant that served cask beer but the Covid epidemic has attracted drinkers to the additional benches laid out in the front part of the carpark and the extensive canalside garden which is however a bit overgrown.
There are 3 handpumps ,with the best option of the two available being St Austell Tribute.
If arriving from a boat it is worth noting that Bridge 15 mentioned below has since been demolished as the pubco didn't want to shell out for it's upkeep,so just walk up a short distance from Bridge 14 along the main road. The pub garden mooring is now invested with reeds and unusable.

UPDATE

Sadly this has returned to it's roots as a restaurant in a pub building.Yes you can just drink TT Landlord and Boltmakers but once the last diners have left ,the establishment closes which I found on entering at 7.15pm on a Sunday.Drinking will be confined to the outside,or vertically by the bar.Downgrade from me and just keep walking to The Ansty if you want a proper pub.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Rose & Castle

Looks like a village pub from the road, but very much a restaurant inside the split-level, light-wood interior. I might have been able to get a seat for a drink inside, but on a sunny evening I wandered down to the rear beer garden by the Oxford Canal rather than sit in one of the patio areas beside the car park entrance. Just Tribute (£4.80) on offer from the pair of handpumps. NB - Closes early, like it's sister pub in Shilton.

Gasto pub - now painted battleship grey.

Has possibly the worlds biggest menu - double digit burger opions - which I had looked at on line before starting a walk from there. Slightly surprised on entry to be given this in the flesh, along with another print out of the specials.

You certainly should be able to get what you fancy to eat!

The service was impeccable. With it being a nice day, we asked to eat outside and this was no problem to them.

Food was quick, good value, quality and portions.

Two cask hand pulls on - forget the other but my Purity Mad Goose was perfect.

Rose & Castle- Antsy
Although this pub is highly recommended in a well known publication, we were disappointed as it is more a restaurant than a pub. A huge menu some of which seemed expensive for what it was, but specials included Crocodile! It was exceptionally busy for a Wednesday night, and I’d highly recommend booking a table in advance. There was a nice ambience about the place and some interesting pictures. There is a huge garden and play area at the rear of the pub which looks onto the canal.
There were two locals at the bar waiting for a table, but they did say this is no longer a pub and no locals come to use it any more.
Real ales wise they did have Fullers London Pride and Young’s bitter via swan neck pumps. 23/09/09
For canal boaters it is a short walk from bridges 14&15.
