This is still a decent pub. It caters for the family / food market which makes sense as it is in the middle of a nature reserve. I always call in for a pint after a walk round the woods. I have eaten here a couple of times and the food was good. On my last visit there were two ales on - Rev. James and Butty Bach. I went for the Rev. James and it was fine.

A detached 1930s pub and restaurant housed in a nature reserve, which also does accommodation. It has a beer garden and childrens' play area. The pub is on the site of an earlier foundation dating back to the Regency at least (so claimed) that took advantage of the local brine baths. The current building is typical of the period, being mainly in expaosed brick, with a rendered lower and having a front facing gable flanked by chimney stacks. The bar and lounge entrances are separate - so i am not sure where the front door leads!

The interior has a couple of rooms - the bar and a lounge/restaurant, both served by a central serving bar. The bar was small, with a pool table, dart board and a TV showing the footy. It is in light cream patterned wallpaper, with a cream ceiling sporting an England flag. As there was nobody in here i swiftly moved around to the lounge/restaurant. This is an irregular shaped room and is in the more general food kind of decor, having walls of mainly red, but with coffee and some patterned wallpaper, with a white ceiling and a dark carpet. There was a small Banks's fireplace near where i sat. The food seems decently priced, especially with 'early bird' offers, but i didn't eat so can't comment on that. The pictures here are more the bistro arty kind and there are some bits of ephemera dotted about. The background music was general and at a decent level and there was a TV with the footy on. There service was very friendly and the clientele mixed between family diners to locals drinking.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Banks's MILD. Two handpulls with Castle Rock Elsie Mo and Holts 2 Hoots, both were decent.

A nice place, with clear areas for food and drink catering to the adults and family market. I would definitely return here and would quite like to eat next time!
