One of two Urban Art Bars in Hockley, this one is neatly done out in Victorian style with two bars round a central servery. Furnished traditionally with beaten copper topped Britannia tables and red leather covered bench seating. There are two pulls in each bar but with different beers in each, a handy stand with appropriate pump clips shows the choice in the other bar. The keg choice is the same more interesting line as found in the Lord Clifden but the casks are different. As with the Clifden decor comes from the same style of modern art prints, Churchill with a mochican being an example here.

The Red Lion is situated a short walk down warstone lane from the clocktower.
Once inside the pub has two seperate rooms, the bar is at the front, this room is square shaped and had bench seating and small stools which faced the bar,the tables were copper topped and the floor was tiled.
There were two TVs showing BT sports on mute.
The lounge is to the rear, this is a plush looking room that is carpeted and had red leather bench seating.
There were four real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Bathams bitter which was a very nice drink, the other beers were Wye Valley Butty Bach,Slaters Top Totty and a beer from Growler brewery.
The pub does food and a group of women had what looked to be a nice full English breakfast.
I found this to be a decent pub to have a drink in.

A good local's pub this one, and well supported. I see why as they serve excellent food and ales. Monday night is cow club and all steaks come with special offers, you can even get a 32oz steak. Back to the beer, I went for the Batham's Fly Tonight and Goffs Brewery White Night, both were fab. Will call again.

Just a few things to add to Danny's comments. A two roomed pub that is smaller and less foody than the Lord Clifden but with a nice open fire in the back room. The flat screen TV scrolled Sky Sports News which was a bit of a conversation killer.
On handpull there was Wye Valley Butty Bach, Castle Rock Harvest Pale, Nethergate Frank Incensed and Slater's Top Totty.
Like its sister pub, I've ticked it off, it's popular with some punters but I feel more at home when I can sit down in a traditional environment. GBG 2010 entry

A more traditional pub than its sister the Lord Clifden, this is an ok comfortable local on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter. Beaten copper tables in two smallish rooms. There is a Banks mirror in the back lounge.
4 real ales, quality not as good as the other Urban Ales pub, but its still worth a visit

The real ales here are always well-kept and delicious. The pub itself has a superb interior and a warm friendly atmosphere. The staff are always friendly, but can sometimes seem a little distracted, but not in a rude or offensive way. They just sometimes seem to go into a daydream and this adds to the pub's charm. The rooms are quite small, so can feel full even if there are only five people in here. The food is tremendous - absolutely delicious. I have never had a bad plate here. This is one of my all time favourite pubs. An absolute gem of a place.

This pub is rare gem in Jewellery Quarter. Famed for ornate mirror and walls in back room and giving out feeling you are in Victorian Era! was destined for demolish few years ago but seems it survived.

A detached corner pub, with white rendered facade and black paintwork, with a beer patio.
The interior has two rooms (as well as a function room), the lounge in grey and wood panel, with strange art and Sky TV. The wood bar is central and serves both main rooms. The food they serve is always decent enough and the service fine. Clientele seems to be more maturer and is often well attended - it is a sister pub to the Lord Clifden.
Beer; tap stuff, with Hardy's and Hanson's MILD - always served ice cold sadly so as to impare the flavour even more than keg usually does. There are several real ales on handpull, including UBU Purity Gold and Mad Goose, Yorkshire Terrier, Holden's Golden Glow and Wye Valley Butty Back, which was very good, as ever.
The decor takes a bit of getting used to, but is it a decent pub, with a good range of ales, the Butty Bach being enough to get a visit from me. The HH MILD seems to be freezing, but is when i have had it at other places and is very much worth a pint. A must go.
