Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Great Western
Substantial 1930s? rebuild of the original railway pub, retaining separate public and lounge bars (although the latter seems not to be in regular use). Refurbished banquette seating in the former, plus a pool table and a dartboard, but little in the way of decoration. Two sadly disused handpumps, and the Open Gate Golden Pale wasn't on either (along with several other keg taps), so John Smith's it had to be (£2.90).

This is a detached pub with a patio area. This is a 30/50s rebuild of the Great Western Hotel, which stood on the same site presumably from c1850s when the station was built. It is in plaim brick, other than the stone around the leaded windows and separate entrances for th lounge and bar. ALso has dormers in the hipped roof. The interior has three rooms, i think - but i only saw the one lounge as the bar was in darkess, as was the other lounge (although this appeared to have red and white walls, with fake beams, general pictures and traditional tables). The lounge i was in is in cream and coffee painted wood panel. It is on two levels (well, a step up!) the lower having a wood floor, the other, carpet. It is populated by general tables and chairs, with the odd bench. There is a pull down screen, which was showing the footy and there was no music, although there is a jukebox. The service was friendly enough and the clientele a small, but mixed group of locals. Beer; usual tap stuff with M&B MILD. I had a shandy and watched a bit of the match. Inoffensive place, just lacks real ale for my taste.
