An impressive mock-Georgian (1930s?) detached undressed brick pub, with a smart front columned entrance. This place became a hotel in 2010, but closed and re-opened, so not sure now if it is. Has a patio area.
The interior has a couple of rooms. The central entrance takes you into a bar/lounge with the serving bar facing you. This straight room is in red patterned wallpapers, with white upper-wall and ceiling and cream coloured floor tiles. A few old photos of the area and mirrors decorate the walls and there is a dart board and a bar-billiard table. I didn't see a TV and the music was from the radio. The room behind is in grren patterned wallpaper, with white upper-wall and ceiling and wood floor, so a more plush lounge! however, the chairs were on the tables and nobody was in here. Both rooms had nice chandeliers. The service was fine and the there were just a few people in. I believe they do food, but i didn't eat here.
Beer; usual tap stuff with Hardy & Hansons Dark (MILD) and bitter - the MILD is nice but as ever with H&H, too cold. There was Abbot Ale on handpull and another with the clip turned around, as well as Old Rosie Cider.
This is a tidy pub, with a decor that modernists and traditionalist like me will accept. Worth a visit.
