Well my fears of a couple of years ago were unfounded, someone (well the imaginatively named Suburban Inns)has taken the bull by the horns and invested a significant sum here. The whole place has been knocked through and extended and painted in faecal pastel shades and resembles a branch of Land of Leather. The only way you can tell there's been a pub here for 250 years is the "est 1764" legend in the sign and logos.
There's a nice terrace out back overlooking a big lawn featuring a huge "Authentic Nordic Tipi" (I can't believe I just typed that) marketed for weddings and wotnot. Though the roar of the M40 just 300m away rather diminishes the experience.
Beer was a choice of Doombar, Doombar or Doombar. I stuck to eurofizz.
Fine if you've got to take the in-laws for Sunday lunch but if it's a pub you're after there are better choices around here. Suburban indeed.

April 2017 notes
I fear this pub has seen better days. Greedy King sold it some time ago and the subsequent neglect is becoming obvious. Chipped plaster here; stained paintwork there; scruffy garden; inedible downmarket menu; untrained bar staff left to cope alone. It used to be quite fancy, people used to drive out from Brum, but I doubt they do now. I predict a block of flats coming on. Sad.
