Handsome, solid traditional pub that's more down to earth than the Howard Arms but a Sunday lunch does run to £22.
We'd booked, although that seemed unnecessary, with only two other punters and maybe a couple more who came during our visit to sit outside on the front patio.
Two roomer, both with roaring fires. Look out for the signed wall by Ian McCulloch. Still trying to determine the story there :-)
Four real ales on from Hook Norton (Tied House) - made me concerned about turnover with lack of punters but no complaints from my Old Hooky.
Food - was really excellent.

Quite a few villages round here have one pub with guide book stickers and Michelin stars to cater for the second home owners up from the smoke, and another for the locals. Ilmington is like this and the Red Lion is firmly in the locals camp: it has none of the gastro-baggage of the Howard Arms round the corner.
It's basically a two bar affair, the public the one to the left, flagstones and open fires; the room on the right is more for diners. Nice garden to the rear, or you can sit out the front. It's a Hook Norton tied house and the bitter was spot on.
Covid regs fine, but a bit cramped inside to feel safe.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
