The Howard Arms is a solid, delightful and traditional Cotswold country pub.
It is however very much geared towards food with most tables set.
There are three main areas: the bar area, which was popular on our visit with friendly lunchtime drinkers, and includes a raised dining area. To the left of the bar is a smaller room with a fabulous large fire, various tables, again all set, and two large leather armchairs by the fire. Beyond this is another dining room.
Fortunately we were here for lunch which was very good but, unsurprisingly given the area, not cheap.
The staff are delightful, helpful and fun.
Beers on were an excellent Purity Longhorn IPA, Wye Valley Butty Bach and TT Landlord.
I'd gladly return for lunch or for a few beers at the bar especially if the Longhorn IPA's on.

The Howard Arms is the fancier of the two pubs in this pretty Cotswold village, and is typical of the area, all the usual guidebook stickers present and correct. It is indeed a handsome building on the village green, beams and stone floors inside. Bar in the middle, cosy area with a fire to the right, sadly occupied by huge chairs making it unusable if someone gets there first. Various rooms off. Just one table without cutlery and reserved signs on a Monday afternoon. At least it was open on a Monday afternoon, you have to hunt around.
HPA, UBU, Landlord and the local North Cotswold Windrush on the pumps. We had a drink of the latter - it was OK but didn't inspire. Nice crisps though.
A nice pub for a summers day with the usual caveat round here to pick your times carefully if your mission is to sample the ales rather than splurge your pools dividend on a three-course meal.

Very handsome country freehouse with emphasis on food. Outside has lots of certificates - inlcluding cask marque (expired) and Sawdays special places.
Set in a pretty location in a lovely village. Most tables set for dining. Four real ales on Ubu, Doom Bar, Hook Norton and Landlord. I may have simply made the wrong choice but my landlord was hazy, on the cusp of vinegar and with small bits of detritus floating in the head. Shame, as it had a lot going for it.
You may be luckier.
