There are few pubs left along the A5 now, seen off by the motorways. I guess this Marston's outlet still exists thanks to its location on a busy junction. There not much else going for it, painted inside and out in gastro grey and in desperate need of the attentions of the decorators. Unless peeling paintwork is a design feature these days. Inside it's a long thin multi-room arrangement with a pleasing selection of tattily furnished snugs and a dining area to the rear, though the dull lighting and decorative condition make it feel grubby.
Purity-branded glasses raised the spirits as we entered, hopes immediately dashed by the choice of Pedigree or Pedigree. We settled for eurofizz, attractively served, and found one of the few tables not occupied by the usual Sunday afternoon roast dinner brigade, extended families, screaming kids.
I guess it makes a useful pit stop if you're travelling this way but it's no one's idea of a destination pub.
