Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Railway Tavern
Basic pub, adjacent to the much more impressive (but closed, hopefully temporarily) Crown. Opened out and modestly refurbished at some stage in lighter decor than one might expect, but the overall effect is a disappointment compared with the reasonably traditional frontage. Fewer handpumps than on my last visit some nine years ago, but two of the remaining three were operational and dispensing Pedigree (just £2.40) and Courage Directors.

This is a Victorian terraced pub, doubtless owing its birth to the proximity of the railway station. It is now cream rendered, with a projecting lower frontage, which looks new due to the windows, but appears to have been in place back in the 1880s. There is a side horse entrance, a dog tooth cornice and a large patio/garden at the back. The interior has, as Will points out, been smashed into one open plan areas - a main room with a couple of side areas. The old fireplaces show they were once rooms. It is in a bit of a tired cream decor, with some red paintwork. The walls have railway pictures and other bits of ephemera are dotted about, too. The TV wasn't on and the music was loud. The service was fine, the clientele were young - and their carcophany did manage to subdue the music. There is a pool table at one end and the place does do a basic food menu. Beer; usual tap stuff with three handpulls, mind you, only the Abbot was on - which was OK. Actually, it seems like a decent enough place, it was just a bit painful at this visit.

My first stop on a Nuneaton pub crawl on a recent Saturday, I arrived to find the doors open but the place deserted. Soon a customer emerged from the toilets and alerted the bar person to my presence. This is a smallish building that has had most internal walls removed to make a large and convoluted room out of what must at one time have been a warren of much smaller rooms. The bar is on the right, with window seating next to it; opposite some more seating in alcoves or booths where once were rooms; further on towards the rear is a pool table and an exit to what I presume is a smoking yard. There are some railway-related photos and memorabilia on the walls, as you might expect, and the foot-rail at the bar has been shaped like a rail that trains run on.
On the bar are four hand pumps, which had three beers available on my visit. These were GK Abbot, Adnams Broadside and Otter Ale. This selection pales by comparison with the Crown a few steps away, but my Otter was in good condition and went down a treat. This is not a pub to be ignored, unless you only have time for one before your train, in which case I suppose the Crown is the slightly better option.
