Old Boots left this review about George & Dragon

Traditional exterior but it’s a modernised Robbos pub, fairly bland interior of one main room with a pool table and dart board in a room off to the right with boxing decor. There’s an L shaped counter in the back right with four pulls in two banks of two, just Unicorn or Dizzy Blonde, not a sparkling choice or much cop to be fair. Usual national keg choice if not that wide. You can make out where the two former rooms were but otherwise just bland wherever you look, there are some interesting photos etc but not enough of anything to make this any kind of must visit. Constant music and there is screen and machine entertainment. To be fair the managers probably just want to run a decent pub that makes money for them and they do but I don’t know the finances. They would prefer if you pay cash as well as a number signs say “cash is king”.

The George & Dragon has laminate flooring throughout the bar area, apart from around the serving counter at the rear where there is a some tiling. There is L-shaped seating around the bar and a log burner sits in a left-hand fireplace. There is more tiled flooring in the games room to the right where a pool table and dartboard compete for space. Both can’t realistically be played at the same time. The service was polite, but the only other customer, a drunkard from Stoke, decided to sit with me to discuss the Potters and his experiences in jail. Decided to sling back my half and get out of there.

Another snot green Robbie's place. Third length wood panelling of passing interest, and a pool room to the right. Two cask, Dizzy Blonde and Unicorn (NBSS 3.5) which was a saving grace and actually one of the best quality cask I had on a generally depressing day in this depressing little town.

According to What Pub this was refurbished last summer so although it has exactly the same layout it may be a bit more comfy than it was. The games area to the right includes a juke box. I turned up here just before midday on a Tuesday so was the only one in.
The bar has two sets of two hand pumps with Dizzy Blonde and Unicorn doubled. On a hot day the Unicorn (£3.20) was cool and in good condition.
It's a Robinson's local but if you don't mind their beer it's OK.

ROB Camra left this review about The George & Dragon

This pub is one large room, but there is a defined games area to the right as you enter. It's most definitely a locals local, although being close to the station it also seems to attract a transient crowd as well. Pretty busy on our Sunday evening visit with the pool table in constant use, there's also a dartboard. It's a Robbies house, so I had a pint of Dizzy Blonde which was in decent nick. Ms CAMRA had a glass of red wine which she says was also decent. It's not a destination pub of any kind and we only visited as we were passing. We'll carry on walking next time.

Standard town centre pub. Real ales available. A pleasant enough pub that met all basic pub requirements.

The George and Dragon is in the centre of Macclesfield and very close to the bus and train stations.
This is a fairly basic Robinsons tied house and it was quite busy on my visit, there were two Robinsons beers on the bar i had a drink of their bitter which was very nice the other beer was Robinsons mild.
