Very much food led these days, and when visiting on a recent Saturday evening I did overhear people being told there was no space left for drinkers. There appears to be a small section in front of the bar that is available for drinking, with the remaining tables to the left and right sections being reserved for dining. It may well be that they are able to be a bit more flexible outside of peak meal times, however the vibe I got was that this is really a restaurant with a small area for drinking in while waiting for your table, rather than it being a traditional pub. That said, there are two hand pulls for cask ale, which is a welcome sight, and even better is that these were local (ish) rather than being a token cask offering of Doom Bar and Abbot Ale! Not sure if the ales change but at the time of my visit these were King's Ale and Excalibur, both by Merlin Brewing. Both pints were very enjoyable. Food was excellent, and plenty of choice. Hard to rate in the context of a proper pub but the presence of interesting cask ales definitely boosted my impression of this place. However, had I been one of the unlucky ones to have been told there was no room at the inn, my impression would have been less favourable.
