Clearly things have changed since earlier reviews. It has an impressive frontage but it seems the interior was gutted at some point, then refurbished in a modern style in an attempt to go upmarket, perhaps to attract a younger clientele who were noticeable by their absence on a lunchtime when others nearby were bustling. External branding of QV rather than Queen Victoria proved the point and the place feels a bit unloved, however it has apparently just acquired new management so things may improve. Cask ale-wise it offered TT Landlord and Theakston's Lightfoot and Best, the latter being in not particularly good shape despite being "from a new barrel". Fingers crossed it gets better.

This pub is an absolute gem and is well worth a visit. The food and choice of ales were very appealing. Five ales on handpump on our visit, the Tyne Bank Single Blonde and Brew Star Sinistar were two very good ales. Also they serve proper home cooked food. I had the steak and ale pie and Mrs Ale had an excellent roast pork dinner. The food and beer was that good we returned the next day. Will defo return.
