This is a fairly cosy local’s pub next to South Croydon train station. The U-shaped layout comprises of a relatively large front room with a few seats, fruit machines and dartboard, a narrow section down the side with room for barstools only and a smaller rear area offering more seats and seemingly popular with the locals.
Each section of the pub has three hand pumps, all offering the same selection of London Pride, Adnams Bitter and Harvey’s Best. The latter wasn't in great form - a creamy head that didn't clear - but it's good to see ale on offer in this type of pub, and I'm prepared to accept that I might have just been unlucky.
Service was prompt and the barmaid was very friendly and apologetic to any customer she was unable to serve straight away. A couple of TV sets showed the football without sound.
Whilst not outstanding, there are much worse pubs in the area and I'd happily return.
