Old Boots left this review about The Ship

The longish walk down and up hill from the Market Place to this edge of town pub in a quiet residential street is worthwhile due to good company and decent if unexciting beer. The opening hours are a bit limited but at least they are displayed on the front door. Inside is a low ceilinged, long, narrow pub, very cosy at the front with all bench seats and britannia tables. The counter is behind in a long narrow area with alcoves to the side and at the back up some steps is a seating area with a pool table lurking behind that. A corridor runs fron the front door parallel to the bar to a door leading to the beer garden, no doubt a relic of previous internal changes. Each seating area has its own big screen. Two hand pumps offer a pedestrian choice of Landlord or Black Sheep in decent nick plus the usual keg stuff of course. A few ship related bits and bobs brighten up the place mainly Royal Navy derived which is a bit odd given Richmond's army connections. A drum kit and some large amps and speakers took up rather a lot of the front room on my visit in preparation for live music I guess. Note to Soupy – Twig Alert!
