A Youngs house, refurbed internally in a modern style ,popular with diners but not to the detriment of those wishing to only drink. The best part of the pub is the front, with to the left some sofas and chesterfield giving way to dining type tables but not set for dining although might be reserved for that purpose. To the right are two small rooms ,the bar is central to the building before a very large and somewhat austere rear conservatory for diners only.
The front is dog friendly while there is a small terrace beer garden, similarly to the rear off the carpark. Two ales Youngs Original and a decent Surrey Hills Shere Drop (NBSS 3.5).
Not somewhere for a session but a worthy stop for a pint or two.The food was pretty good too.

A pub that appeard rather food orientated to me, inside its a modernised pub/restaruant in what was once obviously a traditional pub, these things have to be done sometimes to survive I suppose but it didn't float my boat. There were however four hand pumps, all in operation serving up ,Harveys Best, Sharps Cornish Coaster, Surrey Hills Shere Drop and Trumans Swift. It was pleasant enough sat outside in the sunshine but the pub itself didn't strike a chord, I wont be rushing back.

The Wheatsheaf on Esher Green - Under New Management - has re-opened with excellent food and service. It's so good to have our local back.....
The Wheatsheaf has undergone a complete makeover, the ambiance is just right. This is what I call a decent pub. Great selection of beers, Excellent Food - I had a Sunday Roast Beef. I asked for rare .... and it was just perfect ... (Now that's rare in a pub, normally it's pot luck and often covered in gravy). Francoise had Roast Chicken, also perfectly cooked. A treat. The wine was a very good Rioja - our preference ..... With an excellent view over Esher Green. The Wheatsheaf is the most pleasant place to be .....

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Wheatsheaf
In a fine position overlooking Esher Green, but the appearance of the façade is not really enhanced by the plain front patio seating area. Inside, you find a modernised bar and dining room but plenty of traditional decor elements have been retained. Small rear patio beer garden plus separate grass beer garden at the back of car park. Three of four handpumps in operation when I visited, with Pride, Doom Bar and a decent pint of Shere Drop (£3.90) on offer.

I’ve little to add to what the previous reviewer had to say. It remains a very nice spot in which to enjoy a pint or two.
The ales on offer when I visited the other day were London Pride, St Austell Tribute, Twickenham Grandstand, and the superb Surrey Hills Shere Drop. Mrs R and I also had a bite to eat in here. Main courses were £10+ and sarnies in the £6 - £7 range. The menu stated that the bread used for the sarnies was baked by a local baker, and I have to say they were of excellent quality. Personally I’m happy to pay top dollar for a sandwich if it’s matched by the quality. Some music was being played – The Stones no less – at background levels. This is a decent pub to which I would be happy to pay a return visit.

The pub is situated in an attractive location on Esher Green and close to one of the back entrances to Sandown Park racecourse. Outdoor seating to the frontage with some cover, internally the pub retains a number of defined separate areas. The light wood bar is in the main room opposite the entrance, down a few stairs to the right is the dining area with laid tables, then to the left are a couple of smaller separate areas. Seating is conventional throughout, the flooring wooden apart from a carpeted side room, green wainscotting to the lower walls with light coloured upper areas and ceiling. decor naturally includes plenty of horse racing related pictures as well as golf pictures and framed cigarette cards as well as local scenes. There are a few gardening/agricultural implements on the walls too, plus a few old oil lamps dotted around. Daily papers laid out on top of a barrel.
As regards beer, four handpumps on the bar, my visit had Pride, Doom Bar, Landlord and Hepworth's Prospect (£3.50). Food menus were on the bar and two chalboards advertised specials plus cheaper bar snacks. The TV on the back wall was off on Saturday PM. To the rear is a small garden area and a separate old barn building available for hire. Accommodation is also available.
A nice spot, especially on a sunny afternoon.

With Esher Green at the front and Sandown Park just round the side, this pub combines being a friendly local with picking up passing trade. L-shaped interior, with seating outside to the front and rear and a large car park at the back. Three ale pumps - had very good pints of London Pride and Doombar last night, and Youngs was on the third. Has good reputation for food though I haven't eaten here yet.
