A surprisingly pleasant pub, given a 'traditional' makeover by Greene King in 2017 which has now settled in quite nicely. The J-shaped bar has lots of wood panelling and some yellowish lantern light fittings, with reasonable furniture apart from the obligatory high tables. The main part extending back is mainly tabled for eating, while there are a few sports TVs and the rarity nowadays of a pinball machine, and in full working order too. Fresh flowers on tables don't always work but add to the effect here. There is also a garden at the rear. Beers are from the Greene King range with guests, which on this visit included an extremely drinkable Goldmark Liquid Gold, not forgetting a boxed cider as well. Friendly and very helpful bar staff earn an extra point.

Renamed after a former local minister and councillor, the pub has undergone a modern and rather bland fit out, the uniformed staff adding to the corporate and impersonal feel. Effectively a J shape, there is a part boarded and part parquet floor, mixed seating including the inevitable high tables, a side wall has a few tributes to Lotus cars and presumably Caterham too with posters, a steering wheel and front lights on display. Probably the only items of interest in the pub. There is a rather large garden to the rear.
A GK pub with IPA and Abbot on, one reversed but they also had Wimbledon Copper Leaf Ale on. It took an age to get served with one barmaid serving at her own pace and two others putting glasses and bottles on shelves. Various screens were showing the Saturday football show with rolling scores. The longer side was dressed for someone's birthday party, once a lady began doing a soundcheck, singing snippets as blue lights began to flash I decided it was time to leave.

A largish single roomed, high street Greene King Pub.Four Hand pumps on the bar, Greene King IPA, Abbot (clip turned) and two guests both from Hammerpot, Brighton Belle and Choc Wreck Porter, not a favorite brewery of mine though you could argue better than Greene King and the Brighton Belle was in decent condition. There is a 10% CAMRA discount. It's a typical pub of its type, basic pub grub menu, sports TV etc, nothing special but OK.

This was the only pub that I passed on an 11 mile walk from Caterham. Saved it till the end, when I got back to the train station.

Decent Hogs Back TEA at £3.15 a pint. Typical town centre pub - all meal deals and football.

A fairly large pub in the centre of Caterham. Only two real ales on when I visited, Doom Bar and London Pride. Now one of only two pubs in Caterham Valley.

One of only three pubs in Caterham Valley, this pub is next to the roundabout right in the centre of the town. Lots of timber lines the interior with a reasonable size beer garden out the back. This pub has hardly changed in well over 25 years. However on our very recent visit there were 4 ales on. the Timothy Taylor Landlord and the Hop Back Summer Lightning were both in good condition. Handy for the railway station.

It's pleasant enough, a typical town centre pub, but particular reason to go there unless other business brings you to the area. Useful if you're waiting for the train.

Punch Taverns/Spirit Group so a Chef and Brewer under the skin with the usual lack of imagination that that implies.
