The Royal Oak is much more of a functional pub than the King's Head around the corner, but it still has the feel of a well-run and popular village local.
You enter into the main public bar, with rooms off to either side - a games room to the left and a dining room to the right. There is also seating to the front of the pub, some of it undercover. From here you can watch the world go by and admire the fabulous Old Guildhall opposite.
Regular beers are Earl Soham Victoria Bitter, Adnams Southwold Bitter & Crouch Vale Brewer's Gold. I chose the guest beer called Here Comes Summer from Mighty Oak. I also spotted a box of Snail's Bank Raspberry Ripple cider in the fridge.
A few other customers were in, some just for a drink, others having finished lunch. It certainly seems to be a popular pub amongst the locals.

This large 16th century pub is right next to the church. The main bar faces you when you enter with a dining area to the right and a pool table area on the left. There was also a good outside seated area in the front. This was a busy pub with drinkers and also attracts a lot of diners. Enjoyed a couple of games of pool, the downside for me was that the Earl Soham Victoria was far too cold.

We travelled down to the pub just on the off chance and wewere not dissapointed. The food was excellent, very helpful and friendly staff and a good range of beers and wines to try. Well worth a visit

Opening on the 10t May 2008 after a major renovation and refit the Royal Oak is set to become the premier place to visit in Laxfield and surrounding areas. With a new management team and head chef the experience is one nobody should miss
