Recenlty visited with family members to visit local cemetery. We were aware that it was maybe more a "local" pub than some of the more gastropub types in Cavendish. We in fact thought it was a good sign that locals used it to drink and have meals. We all had meals that we enjoyed and were well presented along the lines of various pies, chicken kiev etc., with freshly prepared vegetables. There were a few vegetarian options as well. Due to terrible car journeys to reach Cavendish we didn't have time to sample the puddings offered, but for us the Five Bells was more than adequate. Sometimes outsiders need to be aware that places exist for local people, and they should make the effort to be polite about intruding on others place of relaxation. Personally I prefer a more low key enviroment than pretensious "cutting edge" places. Only disappointment was to see that the building to the right of the pub appears to have suffered some serious damage.

A beautiful location - unfortunately thats all it has going for it. Once inside the decor is bland to put it mildly, the other customers mildly intimidating and the staff, when they are not outside smoking, have a bad attitude. This place has such potential it is sad to see it wasted.

Whenever you see a picture of Suffolk invariably they show Cavendish green with this pub at the top of it.Wonderfully looking place, but, that is all it has going for it. What a dreadful atmosphere the day we visited. Locals resembled cast outs from Wetherspoons, which really is saying something. Do not be fooled by the chocolate box look. Dont judge this book by its cover.
