The Affleck Arms is a good looking thatched country pub that dates back to the sixteenth century.
Internally it functions primarily for food sales and is popular with the horsey community who travel out of Newmarket to visit.
Originally owned by the Dalham Estate it was sold to Green King some time during the early part of the last century, but since 2000 it has been a privately owned free house with a decent Ale offering which has led to in being included in the GBG for that last few years
Internally the space is mainly a restaurant section laid for dining, but there is a cosy bar area with a prominent inglenook fireplace. Then outside there is a decent space for outdoor eating & drinking, with a rear garden patio & a front garden overlooking the River Kennet
Have popped in a couple of times for a beer but haven’t tried the food so cannot comment how it functions in that respect. On the Ale front there are three, possibly four pumps on the bar with Black Sheep Best as a permanent Ale and then a couple of rotating guests, usually from smaller breweries.
The village of Dalham is a nice spot and if you are in the area on a sunny day, I can certainly recommend an alfresco pint overlooking the River Kennet.
