A fine looking building, beautifully located opposite Madeley Pool. As with many modern Joules pubs, it's hard to tell what is original and what reproduction, but in this instance the building was badly damaged by fire, so any fakery is fully justified. There are four hand pumps with three Joules beers available. My half of Pale was very good (NBSS 3.5, £4.30). I was the first customer through the front door, just beaten to the bar by someone entering from the car park. It was quiet at first, but a burst of music lasting a few minutes was succeeded by more silence. Strange experience. This is a nice pub and deserves to be appreciated without distraction.

Joules Brewery has reopened the historic building, which had been closed after being severely damaged in a blaze.
