At the head of navigation of The River Lark, this pub has a large beer garden with moorings and an outside events bar that can be hired. The interior has a large dining room to the left with rather dull rustic pine furniture and is set too far from the river to get many views. The bar room has been stripped out and seating seems to be made up almost exclusively of leather sofas,I've never seen so many in one pub.You have to rest your drinks on the modern laminated wood flooring, although many bar stools allow seating there but this comes with the danger of bar blocking.
The young serving crew were very attentive and friendly and all spoke with a cockney accent. In fact so did all the customers ,no Suffolk burr was to be heard anyway and the whole pub experience does feel of Romford rather than remote Fenlands. There must be a reason ,but I couldn't figure it out. However there were two real ale options Adnams Southwold Bitter and Woodforde Red Admiral in good nick. The food is pub grub and very reasonable and a good night was spent here. There isn't much boating traffic, but I would certainly pop in again if close by.
