Built on the site of an earlier pub from the 17th Century of the same name which burned down in the 1930s, this village pub is functional rather than picturesque. It is currently owned by Greene King. There is parking at the front and a garden of sorts at the back. The single L-shaped bar has hard flooring apart from a strip of industrial grade carpet in the middle. There is a pool table at one end and a couple of gaming machines to entertain those who need it. The atmosphere is welcoming, the locals quirky and friendly (greeting you with the traditional Suffolk hi-six). It’s close to RAF Honington, and while there were a number of young Servicemen in, there was no trouble, just convivial (if robust) socialising. There were three ales on draft, GKIPA, IPS Reserve and Abbott, all vaguely drinkable but not the best ever. Not a destination of choice, but perfectly acceptable if you happen to be here.
