Birchmoor is one of the smaller former mining villages in this forgotten corner of Warwickshire. The pit here closed in the twenties, although others around survived until Thatcher's depredations 30 years ago. It now serves largely a dormitory for nearby Tamworth.
The pub is prominent on the edge of the village, an imposing Victorian three roomed affair. Entrance is into a lobby with off-sales counter. Bar through a sliding door on the left with a snug further on, lounge/pool room to the right which was out of use when we visited.
It's in the Camra inventory for the original Victorial bar back, panelling, fireplaces - most welcome on a snowy afternoon - and original fixed seating. It apparenlty majors on Church End beers but the one pump in use produced the best pint of Landlord I've tasted in a long time.
It's a friendly locals' pub, well worth a visit to admire the excellent period features.
