Bucking Fastard left this review about Three Crowns

These days situated in a residential area with the road outside by-passed by the nearby A51,this is a classic Vintage Inns chain pub with a rustic theme. The exterior is painted in a modern light brown, the entrance off the large carpark is flanked by a large decking area and a roadside rank of pic nic tables. You enter into an area with a low ceiling, small flatscreen (off on my visit,I suspect terrestrial coverage only) and a seating area which is the most pubby part of the inside with a light green curved bench seat and other trad furniture.Up a step to the right is a dining area while beyond the L shaped central bar ,the interior winds around in three further sections.Exposed brick fireplaces, some hefty ceiling timbers and a mix of furniture including chesterfields give the interior some character but it does feel corporate and orientated towards food.
Meal pricing seems quite high, median main £17,several dishes north of £20 and my daily special of Bangers & Mash weighed in at £15.
Three handpumps with a cider,Sharps Doom Bar and Black Sheep Blonde (NBSS 3.5) won't set the pulse racing, there are far better ale options in town but at least the grub was decent and the welcome friendly.A more thoughtful ale selection could have bumped up the score.
