Close to the Red Lion ,this too is a classic village boozer, you enter into a former Jug and Bottle vestibule with opening window intact with the lounge to the left, public bar to the right. The lounge looked tidy but dull although it does have a pool table. The public bar is lively and has a two sided servery offering Wye Valley HPA and Fullers London Pride (a little tired NBSS 2.5) The public hasd some seating but lots of room for vertical drinking and chat, while around the back there is more seating and a darts board.Sky Sports screen, off on my visit and a courtyard beer garden off the car park.
There were cobs on the bar and every Thursday a quiz with a burger van in attendance.
Less attractive than the Red Lion ,a rather pedestrian ale line up but with a better choice ,a higher rating would have been awarded.Always good to see a proper boozer with an old school landlady keeping control of well oiled but well natured regulars.

We have just called in to this pub for some food unfortunately they dont serve food but the landlady was more than happy to make us some sandwiches of which to our surprise we were presented with two lovely ploughman's with a side of chutney and crisps, they have a choice of 6 well cared for real ales of which we were given samples to help us decide on our choice, this is something you dont get in most mainstream pubs the new operators are brilliant they have created a good atmosphere with a very personable service nothing to much trouble.. dog friendly well kept ales,, well done for bringing tradition back in to a pub, they were the busiest pub out of all three in the area and i can see why. Im telling all my friends to pop in on a Sunday have a drink and try their roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings that they put out on the bar for free -or you can make a donation to the dogs charity..Absolutely brilliant this is a business template that other pub cos and landlords should take on board

This is a large detached pub in a creamy/beigey kind of rendering, which i have to be honest, has seen better days, with rear beer patio.
The interior has three rooms, which are generally in wood panel and brick decor. There is a a bar to the left on entry from the front entrance and a lounge to the right, but sandwiched between them is a small pool room. The lounnge is a little irregular in shape, but has settle seats in part - and both rooms have TVs, which were showing the footy and Wimbledon at my last visit. The service was fine and the clientele mixed - it was very busy on the Friday, but quieter when i visited on the Sunday. With plenty of pictures, prints and cartoons for interest on the walls, this large pub has a really nice interior.
Beer; sadly, this lets it down a little - it is tap stuff, with keg Courage Best - no MILD. The only handpull is Greene King IPA, so, not much there!
With a pretty limited real ale choice and no MILD, it doesn't really appeal to me for beer - which is a crying shame, as the interior is quite nice. I returned to drink a coke as i hoped i had missed a tap or something. Great if you are not a real ale drinker (or a MILD one!) otherwise, not much to attract you.
