A busy, lively pub at about 4:40pm when we reached the last planned pub of our research trip. Having approached the pub via the back door and exited half an hour later from the front, I never did really get the hang of the layout. Finding my way to the toilet and back was more a matter of luck than judgment, as was my beer selection. This was not helped by initially choosing from the four pump clips on the bar, and then being told by the licensee that there were four more in the other room, all eight being listed above the bar. I'm rather short, and stepping back and looking up was harder after five pints than I would have anticipated. I ended up with one from Three Brothers which was quite clearly off, as I found by taking a rather large and injudicious swig. I was able to stop a further pint of this being poured by alerting the licensee and telling him to sniff it, which was enough to get the pump clip reversed. My other beer was from Grey Trees and was fine, and my replacement for the duff beer was Ludlow's Black Knight, whose fairly strong flavours were possibly masking a hint of deterioration in this one too. Maybe eight beers is too many, and I think they were all priced at £4.50, the highest price we paid on the day out in Stafford.

Coming in through the front entrance reveals a carpeted seating area to the left with a coal fireplace and dartboard. To the right the carpet runs through to a bar counter that supports four hand pumps, with two in operation drawing Bradfield Farmer’s Blonde and Oakham JHB. Standard and premium keg was also available and a food cabinet was storing rolls and sausage rolls. My visit was late so these must have been for the next day. Having finished my half of JHB I wondered to the toilet at the rear where I stumbled upon a rear bar. Spotting four more hand pumps I decided to stay for half a Ludlow Blonde. Wye Valley’s Butty Bach, Holden’s Golden Glow and Bristol Beer Factory’s Divide were also available. There was a group of beardy types discussing the fact that the pub had recently been taken over and that Steve, who apparently, was crap at customer service, but great at keeping beer had left. I liked it in here and will pop back in when next in the area, although I was surprised when last orders were called at 22:15.

Scooted down here as it stops serving at 11.30pm on Thursdays. A little off the beaten track down a side street outside of the arterial road that effectively signifies the boundary of the town centre. Inside, it’s an inverse J shape with the bar at the apex. Fairly basic with aged brown fabric banquette seating, curtains, modern brown carpet and off-white walls and ceiling. Dart board. 8 pumps and 7 on, with a good selection of northern and midlands regionals. My Oakham Citra was a little warm but ostensibly fine – though at 11.15pm on a Thursday night a beer as good as Oakham should never be warm, so presume they are guilty of stocking more beers than they can shift to please the sweet-shop CAMRA crowd? There were a small band of locals in after 11. It was fine, probably worth the yomp on a crawl but the warm Oakham makes me think that it isn’t essential.

A decent watering hole this one, especially for the prison wardens coming off a shift from across the road. We popped in on a Saturday afternoon when the pub opens at 12pm and not 3pm according to Camra WhatPub. I immediately went for the Bewdley Brewery Worcestershire Way and then one of their regular beers Bradfield Farmers Blonde. They had a choice of seven ales on handpump on our visit. There was also a beerboard on the wall, listing their forthcoming ales, settling in the cellar.
We sat in the far lounge with was slightly bigger than the front room. This area had cream walls, comfortable banquette seating and a carpeted floor. The bar had a pine counter and a brick foot rest along the floor perimeter. The lounge area had lots of bric a brac and the theme was obviously to do with greyhounds. A decent respectable pub, so well worth a visit.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Greyhound
Welcoming real ale pub with two separate entrances on different side streets, and both sides feature a white façade 9albeit in very different styles). Generally well-lit light decor within the twin-bar layout, each with an unfussy and tidy appearance. Good choice from mostly smaller breweries from a total of eight handpumps, including the Bradfield Farmers Blonde (£3.10). Well worth seeking out.

A really good pub. 7 cask ales on. Two distinct bars. The list of beers is located on a board in either bar.

An interesting pub design, as it lies between two parallel roads - it looks like a couple of white rendered cottage-style pubs, with bay windows, one terraced, that seem to be laid out in an L-shape. There are a couple of patio areas. It has been in the GBG for the last few years and rightly so.
The interior has two rooms to reflect the design. The terraced cottage takes you into the bar room, which is in a white and eggshell kind of coloured walls, with white ceiling and a brick fireplace. There is a mixed tile and carpeted floor and there are a couple of TVs, though one wasn't on - the other has ESPN and Sky Sports games. There is a dart board and beer boards with current and future beers listed separately. There are old beer adverts and other pictures on the walls. The lounge also has a brick fireplace and is in cream and wood panel, with white ceiling. Greyhound pictures adorn the walls, with other ephemera and the beer boards are here also. The service is always fine and the clientele very mixed, and it is often busy. There was no music at any of my visits and they only serve bar food.
Beer; tap stuff with 7 real ales; at my last visit these were - Broughs Blonde, Ossett Blonde, Acorn's Apollo, Dakota Golden Ale, Kelham Island Easy Rider and excellent Beartown Black Bear and Bradfield's Farmer's Stout
A superb pub. A must - possibly, likely the best in Stafford. GO!

An excellent real ale pub just outside the town centre, and a regular in GBG, the Greyhound is usually full of locals enjoying a lively social life as well as great beer. They don't do food (other than snacks), so it's the conversation and the beer that people come for. As an outsider I didn't feel as welcome as I have in other Stafford pubs, but there was no real hostility and I enjoyed a great pint of Everards. Three other ales on but time didn't allow me to try them. I would highly recommend this pub as part of a town crawl, especially if linked in with the Tap and Spile, Kings Arms and/or Joiners Arms.

Superb pub for real ale fans. Can get very busy at weekends and big football matches due to the bigscreen taking up a whole wall!!!
Up to 8 beers on, from micros except for the old fogies that won't try anything else and they have bombardier!! Accent is on light hoppy ales supported by vast array of ciders(bottled) and fruit wines. Only 2 minutes from main street, a hidden gem (well it is now they have built flats on the car park).Mine hosts Steve and Bonita give you a typical yorkshire welcome "wheres ya money?". No food except the usual crisps and nuts and no duke box or machines.update: now butties and pork pies
