This is a comfortable, large two bar pub on one of the main roads leading out of town. You enter into a corridor with a door to the left for the front public bar and access at the far end to the rear lounge. The public bar is a bare boarded space with walls painted in a two tone colour scheme with some old timbers visible as well as across the ceiling. Comfy banquettes line the front wall, with some low stools through the centre and a few high tables and stools to the right. The bar is along the rear wall and has a tongue and groove counter front and modern white tile bar back, whilst the canopy has been covered with corporate style blackboards detailing upcoming live sporting events. A dartboard has been sited in the rear left corner and there's a nice brick fireplace to the front left has a handy beer board above. The corridor has an attractive etched glass pane that looks through to bar area, whilst the rear bar has plenty comfortable furniture options but still had a bit of a dining room feel. Additional seating can be found on the pavement out the front, but as this is right next to the mainline railway, I'm not sure how pleasant or peaceful a spot it would be.
There were no less than six cask ales available on my midday arrival - Taylors Landlord and Boltmaker, Salopian Shropshire Gold, Bradfield Farmers Belgian Blue, Wye Valley Butty Bach (£4.30 a pint) and St Austell Tribute. The Butty Bach was on good form and I thought the barmaid was quite friendly and welcoming, although I was the only customer at this early, mid week hour.
I thought this was a nice local's pub with a great two bar layout, some well-kept beer with a decent selection to chose from and friendly service. The ale range might not be considered the most adventurous and therefore sets the pub apart from some of the town's destination alehouses, but there's enough going on here to merit the walk out from the town centre.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Spittal Brook

Proper community pub, now well below the A34 road level since the former level crossing was replaced by a bridge. Main bar at the front and the restaurant further back; both modernised, but still retaining a traditional feel. Boltmaker, Tribute and a decent pint of Butty Bach available from three of the four handpumps.

NB - Review dates from May 2022.

What a wonderful pub.Well kept selection of real ales,on my visit Harviestoun's Bitter and Twisted guesting and top quality and the Everards Tiger was spot on.The pub grub is wholesome, tasty and good value .This is a real community boozer with a friendly welcome for strangers and is a hive of activity even at lunchtime. There is an informal library of popular books ,and lots of conversation with no extraneous noise.Great beer garden .A real hub of the local community, this is what all small pubs should be aiming for.The good people of Stafford are very lucky to have this gem.

A friendly and lived in local boozer offering food and decent ale. As other reviewers have noted the pub has two rooms, the bar at the front, which is sparsely furnished with wooden floors, and a more comfortable lounge at the back.
5 regular beers: London Pride, Tiger, Pedigree, Tribute and Black Sheep and 1 guest, Otter's Otter Bright on our visit. We tried a respectable pint of Tiger but didn't feel that there was enough of interest to tempt us into more. Maybe the Spittal Brook should look at that as the 5 regular beers are all widely available and there's plenty of local beer choice in Staffordshire alone.
A dependable and friendly boozer serving quality ale which could perhaps easily tweak it's ale range to offer more of interest. I'll always pop in for at least one if in the area.

Called for just a drink last week and liked the very friendly locals, so went again today for a meal. Chose the cheese & potato pie off the blackboard for £7.50, It was really nice... VERY hot!... and certainly a good portion... too much for me to finish! They have a very good selection of real ales although I dont drink them.... the cider was fine! It was really nice to have a quiet meal with no loud music, and the few local's who were in were really welcoming. Went to the ladies and it was SPOTLESS, makes a change from some ive been in! Will be going again.

The Spittal Brook is a little way out of the town centre, so is free from the rowdy element. the decor is looking a bit tired, but the ambiance is homely. The garden is a decent size and makes for a pleasant family venue. As ever, the beer is of the highest standard - Everards Tiger seems to be a regular beer here, and this time I also had St Austell's Tribute. Both were excellent. The beer quality is this pub's strong point and makes it well worth adding to any crawl. I will certainly be back next time I'm in Stafford.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Spittal Brook Inn

A detached brick built pre-Victorian pub, with beer garden. It has returned to the Spittal Brook, after it changed its name to the Crown - and Spittal Brrok changed its hamlet name to Queensville in obsequious homage to Victoria on her coronation.

The interior has two rooms. The bar is in a yellowy artes colour with wood panel and wood floor, with ceiling and supporting wood beams. There is a brick bar here, with beer mat collection and a dart board. The TV wasn't on and interest is supplied by the saucy post-card collecion on the walls. The lounge has the same decor and post-cards, although there are historical information panels and board games a plenty to play. Some rugby memorabilia is dotted about and there is another small bar here. The service was fine, the music mixed and quiet and the clientele small due to it being a Monday afternoon.

Beer; tap stuff, with Black Sheep Bitter, Everard's Tiger, Pedigree, Exmoor Stag, London Pride and a decent St Austell Tribute.

I agree with BF's review - a wonderful pub

Excellent family orientated pub. Great atmosphere and regularly winning CAMRA awards for their many real ales and the addition of some nice cloudy Addlestones cider is very welcome!! The food is very tasty too. ALso offers B&B accomodation - reasonable price but haven't seen the rooms.
