This is an interesting multi-roomed pub, with separate entrances and a different feel to each room. A conversation of sorts is still possible with drinkers in other rooms, at quiet times, because the bar serves all areas, but a proper chat would involve one or other party leaving the pub and re-entering by another door. There's a friendly atmosphere here, even when there are not many people in, as at the time of my mid-week visit. The layout of rooms is not completely original, as the largest room, accessed by the door in the front corner of the building, has clearly been changed at some time and now has an L-shape to it.
On the bar were nine hand pumps that I could see, with numerous beers available. These included Greene King Abbot and Old Speckled Hen, John Smiths Cask, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Cottage Normans Conquest, but there were others that I either didn't see or failed to note at the time. A plethora of former pump clips adorned the walls. I had the Cottage beer, which was good value at £2.70 a pint. This is one that I will definitely be revisiting for an extended session.
