Once a good local pub, the Rose & Crown is now an Ember Inn, knocked through into one large room decorated in gastro pastel tones, with modern tables and chairs. On the plus side, the ale choice was better than most in the area, with five hand pulls offering at £2.75/pint Lancaster Blonde, Moles Molecatcher, Thwaites Nutty Black and Tetley, with the fifth unclipped. The food menu looked okay too, pretty standard stuff with some special offers, and service at the bar friendly and seemingly efficient.

Table service was a different matter however - things went a bit wrong when several parts of what we thought we’d successfully ordered turned out not to be available, meals came with bits missing, and by the time three cafes latte arrived as three black coffees we’d got past feeling irritated and more into comedy of errors territory. We couldn’t help wondering whether the new potatoes were unavailable because the very large, dishevelled person serving us had eaten them all himself.

I wouldn’t mind coming back here for a drink sometime if in the area, but wouldn’t eat here again
