I believe this Punch Taverns pub is now under new management and is better for it. Two beers were now on, Doom Bar and Butcombe and the latter was fine. However a request for food at 9 PM was refused as the kitchen was closed. 15 minutes later the chef was seen walking about the bar to check there were no more food orders. Pubs need to be a bit more accomodating if they want to see repeat custom. Apart from my group and some skittlers the pub would have been empty with half the building not even got the lights on.

So-so village pub with curt welcome from the elderly barlady (landlady?) who seemed particularly confused, inefficient and unhelpful. Only one ale on (Butcombe) which was only average. We ate from the mid-day menu and the food was adequate. The specials board, while venturesome, seemed inordinately expensive. We haven't hurried back. Below average.
