Two roomer locals drinking den. Yellow and green colour choice makes it look like a Hop Back place, or perhaps a Norwich City away day pub. Proper fire on the go. Three cask on, (Butcombe, Hop Back and Hop Union) my Hop Union Scallywag was a little heavy but just about GBG-par (NBSS 3). Worth taking-in if you’re crawling the city. 6.5

Liked this a lot - a good locals pub, close to the town centre but away from the tourists.
Looks small on the outside - a main bar to the right of the entrance with a log burner and traditional looking bar. Keeping moving through the pub from the main entrance and along with a beer garden is a well furnished and huge gazebo. Can't be many that include chesterfields, a pool table and huge screen for the sport.
Genial Irish landlord.
A couple of real ales and Cheddar Crown and Glory in fine condition.
Good Beer Guide 2023.
Wish I could have spent longer here but time limited.

A really good traditional back street boozer laid out as described by Blackthorn, below. The outside area at the rear, a paved courtyard with a garden behind, is huge compared to the size of the pub itself, though unfortunately the weather wasn’t conducive to enjoying it on this occasion. There was a good local crowd in, but the young bar staff were a bit miserable and unfriendly. That said it was a good atmosphere and we had a good time. Ales on were Goat’s Leap from Cheddar, Butcombe Gold and Hick’s Cornish Ale, all in excellent condition. There were 3 boxed ciders from Wilkins and Stan, plus Guinness and 5 lagers of varying origins. Definitely worth including in a crawl, and a good place for a few pints if in the area.

A traditional pub just off of the High Street, it consists of a couple of bars and a good sized garden at the rear. Staff seemed friendly and helpful, and there was a good crowd in on a recent Boxing Day visit.
The smaller bar to the left consists of three small interconnected rooms. The main part adjacent to the bar counter also leads out to the garden and has a wood strip floor with pale lemon paintwork on part of the walls and exposed stone elsewhere whilst the woodwork is painted in black. A chesterfield sofa is in the window at the front, and there is a carpeted snug off to the left with a large stone fire-place and more exposed stone walling and a pool table in another room at the rear. The bar to the right is a slightly larger, L-shape room which also had a stone fire-place, darts board and a plasma showing the football.
There were some unusual beers on tap, namely Full Moon (their own, presumably), Milk Street Brewery’s Zig Zag, Palmer’s 200 and the seasonal Twelfth Night. Ciders were very well represented with Thatcher’s Gold, Blackthorn, Black Rat, Thatcher’s Heritage, Thatcher’s Traditional and a trio of Wilkins Farmhouse – Sweet, Medium or Dry. Most of the pints were priced at a very reasonable £2.80 or so.
